Campaign Overview

Objective

In 2019, media entrepreneur Jahliel Thurman engaged UMGMT to expand his digital presence and enhance the brand visibility of Yard Talk 101 — a media platform that amplifies the HBCU experience. Our immediate goal is to reach 10,000 followers on social media by the brand’s one-year anniversary, while laying the foundation for long-term credibility in the HBCU and youth engagement space.

Our Strategic Approach

  1. Brand & Platform Optimization
    We began with a complete brand audit — refining social bios, visual identity, and keyword strategy to ensure alignment across all digital channels.

  2. Audience Development + Content Direction
    We identified core audience groups and led the social manager in building a content strategy that spoke directly to students, parents, and HBCU alumni — while activating present HBCU students as contributors.

  3. Competitive Market & Growth Mapping
    UMGMT conducted a competitive analysis of similar education-driven and HBCU-centric platforms to identify growth opportunities and optimize content themes.

  4. Community-Centered Engagement
    By encouraging Yard Talk’s direct engagement strategy — including comments, DMs, and reposts — we helped grow the community’s trust and visibility from the inside out.

  5. Performance Tracking & Strategy Evolution
    Our team regularly reviewed platform metrics to adjust campaign focus and boost engagement, leading to measurable growth month over month.

Results & Highlights
  • Define the target audience: Define the ideal audience they want to attract on social media. Identified their demographics, interests, and behaviors.

  • Social Media Management: Directed the manager on creating content that resonates with their audience.

  • Audit the current social media presence: Evaluated the current state of their social media presence. Looked at the current content, engagement rate, follower count, and other metrics.

  • Conduct a competitive analysis: Analyze the social media presence of their competitors to see what's working for them. Identified the gaps and opportunities in the market.

  • Create a content strategy: Based on Yard Talks' target audience and a competitive analysis, we developed a content strategy. Determine the types of content that they could frequently post, and the messaging they could use.

  • Optimize profiles: Ensure the Yard Talk platform is optimized with high-quality profile pictures, detailed descriptions, and relevant keywords.

  • Make sure that the branding is consistent across all platforms. Engage with the audience: Respond to comments and messages from the yard talk audience. Start conversations and encourage interaction with your content.

  • Measure and adjust: We regularly measured the yard talk social media metrics to identify what was working and what was not, optimizing performance and growing their following.
